How to unlock an iPhone locked to international networks in Kenya

How to unlock an iPhone locked to international networks in Kenya
If you live in Kenya like me then you know that iPhones are sold quite expensive by the few authorized apple dealers. These include telecommunication companies such as orange and Airtel who got authorized recently to start selling apple devices. IPhones bought directly from the shop are quite expensive and that’s why most people opt to import Locked phones then later unlock them to use any Sim card in Kenya. The price of an iPhone 5 bought directly from the shop cost around 70,000/= 16GB, 75,000/= 32GB and around 80,000/= for 64GB. Remember this is just a rough estimate. According to apple only orange appears on their website as an authorized dealers and distributors. But other companies like Elitedigital also have some kind of dealership with apple. At the end of the day most Kenyans cannot afford this kind of overrated kind of phones. But I have seen incredible cheap prices for the same device on OLX and jumia website for guys selling their iPhones at a cheap price.
This post is not exactly aimed at people who want to buy brand a brand new iPhone in Kenya but rather those whose iPhones are lying idle locked to international networks such as AT&T, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Verizon, Orange and the list goes on. What happens abroad is when you buy a phone its tied to a contract by the mobile service providers since you get into some kind of contract unlike in Kenya where most us buy phones directly from shops on cash basis. If you purchase directly from apple you will get the device at higher price since its unlocked but if you want to get it cheaper you can buy under a contract which makes it cheaper around $100 – 150 but provided you stick to the contract of using that specific network i.e. AT&T or Verizon.

Locked iPhones get their way to Kenya through people who have relocated to Kenya from abroad and the device are still locked to their original carrier and therefore cannot work with simcards in Kenya. What you need to know before you unlock this kind of phones is the carrier will not unlock them freely unless you have been a loyal customer on their network and have spent quite some money on their pricing plans that they offer both prepaid and postpaid. So how can you unlock them if they are still locked by their original carrier? Different companies have different rules for unlocking; I will try to cover AT&T because I have dealt with iPhones locked to this network frequently.
Since most people don’t meet the requirements of getting the phone unlocked at no cost you need to use a third party unlock solutions to get the device unlocked. The most important thing with your phone is it needs to be “CLEAN” that means it has not been reported lost, stolen or barred by the carrier due to unpaid bills. Once you provide us with the IMEI of the device its checked against carrier database to confirm its clean. Most devices that land in Kenya sometimes are either reported lost or the owner had some unpaid bills with previous carrier abroad.
This kind of iPhones can be unlocked by either normal cheap service or premium service if blacklisted or barred. A couple of websites run paid services to check if the device is Blacklisted or what network its locked too if you can’t tell or access the device to see. Once the status is confirmed you can go ahead and order the service. If the device is clean you can try to use the cheap option (70-80% success rate) or you can go for the premium service which is guaranteed to unlock it (100% success rate).
This is where I come in if you want to unlock your device I can assist you confirm if its blacklisted, or what network its locked to. This is very important for new buyers who have never used iPhones. Before you buy always confirm the device is not blacklisted or iCloud locked (refer to my previous post). I have seen naïve people buy devices that are as good as a Toy. Especially iCloud locked iPhones in Kenya. Also blacklisted iPhones are a bit expensive to unlock.
What the unlock is in simple language is your IMEI is submitted to apple servers by your carrier as unlocked that means it can connect to iTunes and apple servers deem it unlocked. Remember this is a joint effort between apple and carriers. Once the device IMEI is unlocked you can connect the phone to iTunes and the device communicates with apple servers and will give you a status unlocked if successful. If unsuccessful you will get a message "the sim card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported. Please contact original carrier”.

If somebody tells you he is going to unlock your iPhone using some kind of software don’t fall that lie. It used to be done but apple have sealed all loopholes and starting from iPhone 4s and above only solutions is factory unlocking or by use a Sim interposer the likes of GEVEY or RSIM or XSIM…don’t mind the jargon/lingo used here.
I cannot be able to explain everything on a single post. But if you own an iPhone, iPod or iPad that’s locked I can help you get it unlocked at a good deal. If you need my help feel free to email me on:

How to unlock bootlader and root a HTC phone

Today am going to show you how to unlock and root a HTC phone.I found out HTC phones to be a bit different from you normal Samsung phone in that they come locked from changing their firmwares and modifying apps. But that’s not to worry because the guys at HTC are kind enough to give you a free option to unlock the boot loader of your device. I got to say am new to HTC phones but I have come to like their sleek look and awesome feel.
So today am going to teach you a very basic method of unlocking the boot loader or your HTC model. In my case I used a HTC 6160. This phone looks exactly like a HTC 601 only difference is it’s a dual SIM with one SIM card usable with CDMA network. It also packs a Quad core processor and an internal memory of 8GB.

The first things you will need is to fully charge your phone to make sure you don’t brick or crash the phones firmware. Then register a free account on HTCdev website. You will receive a username and password to create your account.
Next make sure you enable USB debugging on your phone, Settings>>Developer options>> usb debugging. On the HTC 6160 its can be found on Settings>> About >> Software information >>More >>  Build number then you press it 7 times and a message will pop saying” your are 3 steps from becoming a developer”. Then next Disable Fastboot by going to Battery manager(Power)>>Fastboot and disable it. You will then need ADB and fastboot installed on you computer. Just search on Google for SDK tools and download and unzip the file on your computer c: drive. Make sure you have installed the correct drivers for your phone model. If you have HTC sync installed then you are ready to go.
Put you device on fastboot mode by pressing the power button and the Volume down button the same time. Make sure you select Fastboot>> select it by pressing the power button. Connect you phone USB to your pc. Type Fastboot oem  get_identifier_token . You will get message with your boot loader that should be copied to the HTC unlock boot loader website on step 5. Copy from where <<identifier Token Start to Identifier Token End >>. After submitting you will receive the Unlock_code.bin file on  your email. Go back to command prompt and make sure you are on the SDK>>Platform tools folder and type fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin.Use CD command to change directory. Also copy the bin file you received o the folder Android\SDK\platform-tools I renamed the folder to android for easy navigation.

If successful the phone screen will change and you will get and option to choose yes. Confirm by pressing the power button. Wait as your phone reboots, and you can confirm if it’s unlocked by booting to recovery again. I will write the next post on how to root the phone. If you need any help comment and I will respond.

How to use Find My iPhone to locate and lock your device

This iPhone is currently linked to an Apple ID , sign in with Apple  ID that was used to set up  this iPhone or iPad” sounds familiar, I know most of you have come across the message and that’s why I  have decided to write this post to inform anyone that has hopes on ever using that iDevice. I have seen numerous remarks and comments on blogs and Facebook pages by users who have such kind of devices locked to apple activation screen. Apple is known to be pioneers of great and unique technology. Now the find my iPhone feature is a very hard to crack feature that comes with devices that run apples IOS 7 and above. This feature when enabled on your iPhone or iPad or any I device will link that device to your iCloud account and will only allow one user to activate the device anytime you wish to use it after its activated.  This is a major breakthrough to deter thieves who steal in the case of android phones and change the IMEI of your devices and sell it later making it difficult to track it or recover it. When find my iPhone is activated it’s very hard for anyone to ever use the device unless they have the Email address and password that is linked to that device. Remember apple devices have to be activated via ITunes for them to register with the network for locked devices and those that have been reported stolen via iCloud. Activating this handy feature is very simple just go to your device Settings>> iCloud>> sign in with your Apple ID>> Turn on Find My iPhone.

Now that you have done that remember if you forget that password and may be you need to restore your device it will be very hard reset it. My advice is using your email address i.e. Gmail or yahoo so that you can reset your password anytime via email. Anytime you want to turn off the feature you will be required to provide the password. Now anybody that comes across your phone and wish to turn the feature off will have to provide the password.

In case you lose or misplace your phone, you can log in via the web on iCloud and track the iPhone, for lost devices you can activate the lost mode and lock it with a four digit passcode to display your phone number in case someone comes across the phone. Next time someone sells to you a sleek iPhone always check that find my iPhone is de-activated on that device. If they are the legit owner of the device they should be able to turn it off. Also I have found a useful website that you can check if that iPhone’s IMEI find my iPhone is activated iphoneimei.info. Some people have come up with unethical ways of trying to bypass the iCloud activation but very few can be able to use their iDevice after exploiting this security feature. And sincerely speaking unless you have a stolen or misplaced phone it will be very hard to get the phone activated; that means registering with a network and iTunes. Just like android users use the Google play. Apple devices require you to sign in with your Apple ID and password to download any application from the Apple Apps store.  Next time someone tries to sell to you a cheap iPhone or iPad think twice before making the purchase. That device could end up being used like a toy or iPod since you may never get past the activation screen. With IOS getting updated each and every time it will get harder to crack this feature especially for people who own devices running devices with A5 and above chips/processor.
Before buying a second hand iPhone or iPad
•Always check find my iPhone is not activated. Check physically or using iphoneimei.info
•Always buy from reliable sources, if you making payments use websites such as EBay or amazon since they offer buyer protection services and payments is made via PayPal. That means you can always claim for a refund if goods delivered are not satisfactory
•Also check if the phone has been reported lost or the IMEI is blacklisted. You can use free services such as Swappa.com/esn
•Finally check if the phone is carrier locked. Don’t be fooled by the price the device costs. It might be locked to international networks such as AT&T, T-Mobile, and Vodafone etc.

BITCH

Bitch (pronounced as bich)
noun
a female dog
or
a malicious, unpleasant, selfish person, especially a woman.

Long time ago, before my baby sister was born, we celebrated the holidays. the holidays were awesome, there was feasting,
literal sense of the word, feasting. there was so much food we puked, now i believe i can not puke for any other reason other
than intoxicants. we traveled to my grandmas place almost 2 travel days. everyone made an effort. the gathering was
insane, even those exotic cousins from the states came and made it more interesting with there English. i loved it.
during these times the dog and its puppies enjoyed as much as we did. the dog was part of the family. we did everything together,
i mean she was even included in the family photos:

on the eve of the holidays, nyama choma was in plenty: kuku ngombe mbuzi etcetra etcetra. in this case there was meat
everyday, every course included bits of meat in it, even breakfast. maybe i went too far, breakfast was normal, no meat.

The dog, the mother of next generation puppies, was always around. she was playful, always wagging her tail running from one
corner to another with her puppies and the children(us, we were pretty small too) following her. she was charming, she
identified us from strangers, she could not bring herself to bark at us only play, sometimes she could roll over and her
eyes begged us to tease her. i did, she loved it.

Grandma noticed this and even grew fonder of the bitch. she served her food on plates at the same time with us. we even sat
together during meal times, i personally enjoyed as she ravished with delight on the meat and bones. i loved everything
about the dog.

The holiday aftermath. people slowly started back to their homes. my exotic cousins and co. made their way back to their fancy
estates. the atmosphere was filled with emotional farewells, acceptable at that time, @children. but on one particular
holiday something bizarre happened, on the darkest hour of the night there was fracas at the chicken coops,
pardon my english. it happened the next evening and the next. Grandma got mad and asked our dads how the fuck they could
sleep through a wild cat attack. so the next evening all the men plus the boys armed themselves with simple shamba
tools, panga, simi even slasher and sticks. we waited for hours in the unbelievable cold our teeth clattering against each other
and all that bag of nonsense that come along with the cold. we were almost giving up when we had slow steps from a
bush. then we saw our dog, dad was about to whistle to it when we realized it was heading towards the chicken coops.
that Bitch! we gave her food for over 5 days, consecutively, and that was how it repaid grandma? we waited until it got in
and as it was choosing the fat one we all sprung with our weapons.(it was confusing at first, because it was random and
simultaneous) i could have sworn the bitch had gone to a stealth school because how it evaded us in precision i don't
believe a beast could be that intelligent. it ran away and that was the end of it. i never saw the bitch again. Now now
Children, i know you relate this story to many experiences, only not with a dog.

Easy Way Out, or is it?!

-By Nadia

So, am seated here staring at the laptop for ages trynna figure out what to write about, and I think to myself, FOOD!!!......so I
head down to go get me a bite to eat.

(Ps. Article not about food). Anyway, while am at that I decide to go through some of my
old notes and crap, yes I am a girl who keeps notes that were passed to me in class for memory purposes. You would never
believe what I bump into…..

I can’t stop laughing at the irony of the situation. Am reading through and am like damn people have issues!! The things people
come up with when they go crazy are mind blowing. Am thinking to myself, how old was she, like 13, 14, I don’t know.
Should I be terrified? Or should I just burst out in laughter?

Confused as I am, I keep on going……Oh! Pardon my ill manners; did I forget to tell u what I am talking about? Well let us keep it
that way. The 1st statement that captures my eyes is ‘’sometimes I wonder how life would be without me’’. This actually
makes me wonder…. If I did not exist, how would life be like for people around me¬? …
This is exactly how it would be; it would suck so bad they would just have to find another me, though I am irreplaceable and it ain’t
my fault, or life would simply go on

So apparently that was not my eye opener. Proceeding with the note, this mysterious genius writes, “Wonderful parents deserve
amazing kids, and not rotten beings like me. I get the worst grades make the most mistakes and above all I am the 1st to be
suspended.”
You know what, this actually gets me a little teary. Don’t get me wrong, am not going all emotional, am actually laughing
so hard it hurts. Getting bad grades and by bad I mean B+’s and A-‘S the , grades some of us celebrated coz they only
come so rare, made this bitch, my bad, made this lady call herself rotten. Am sorry to say, but that’s bull. You wanna know
a bad kid, look at Miley, look at Beiber; I sure as hell don’t regret the fact that I did not sire them. As a matter of fact
I count it a blessing, no offence. And as far as getting suspended is concerned, honey, people live on such memories in
their after future. Dudes who get straight A’s , are the teachers’ pet , did nothing crazy back in high school or whatever
level u get your crazy on, have no life whatsoever.

On with the note… so I am not in the business of sharing all the info but this last line was particularly interesting. “I wanna
die so bad. I want the world to open up and swallow me, but since that is highly unlikely, I will take my own life to make
it quicker I want to reduce the stress for people around me. It might probably even reduce the cost of living and improve
the economy. See God, that would be awesome for everyone.”
Please feel free to share in laughter or sorrow, whichever
floats your boat. Whatever on earth would posses anyone to declare that, I do not know, and frankly, am not planning
to find out.

So apparently some people would commit suicide over very many stupid reasons, I got a bad hair day and my crush saw me; my girlfriend dumped me; my husband has a slut on the side; my boss just fired me; my life sucks! ……… so on and so on. So what love, the situation ain’t changing if u keep complaining or if u die,… u are only allowed to live one day at a time. Make that one day count and stop being greedy, trying to grab them all at once. Simply my point is, don’t be stupid!!!!!.......... So what if u die now, who’s to say it’s better on the other side?

Viber out for windows Lumia Phones

Viber for windows Lumia Phones
Viber is becoming popular just like Whatsapp; I actually think in the future its going to give Whatsapp a run for their money. Viber 4.1 the latest release will come with new features such as Chatting, Instant messaging, photo forwarding, video sharing and hands free Bluetooth connectivity. If you have used a windows phone you will realize that most software developers take time before uploading compatible version of their apps to the Windows phone appstore. Not like in the android play store where most apps are easily accessible and compatible with most android phones.
Viber out uses the 3G or Wi-Fi connections to make calls to both land line and GSM numbers.Yu mobile has been known for cheap call rates but now that they are exiting the market, let me hope the call rates on Viber out will be competitive compared with the remaining service providers in Kenya. But if you look at closely you will need data from lets say Safaricom to use the app But don’t rush to install it before you have some credit first. The good thing is, you can check how much you are going to spend by navigating to Settings>> Viber out >> Get rates. Other devices such as the Nokia X which was recently launched in Kenya will also be getting Viber out soon.

Jaguar spends part of his Easter Weekend giving back to Prisoners

Jaguar spends part of his Easter Weekend giving back to Prisoners
Most of us enjoyed our Easter holidays in different locations having fun to the fullest, plenty of nyama choma, partying in Nax Vegas, Machakos hakuna matata festival but the Philanthropic singer chose to visit the Industrial Area Remand prison to thank the prisoners where he shot his latest song Kioo which has gone to be a hit.The diet changed from the normal as they were treated to some sumptuous meal for lunch and dinner. I applaud Jaguar for always giving back to the less fortunate and people in dire situations.

No matter how matter you may talk ill or doubt his giving hand I think its always fulfilling to share and give back than to receive always. He was not alone and was accompanied by fellow artist and friends Jalong’o, Vinnie Banton, Nonini, Dj wesly and his producer. Jaguar promised to support inmates who got Talent after they finish doing their time. Jaguar also awarded prisoners who performed well in their duties showing cleanliness and discipline.

Habida Twerking during the Guiness evolution Party

Habida surprised her fans during the Guinness Evolutions party that was graced by Jamaican popular dancehall star Konshens.I also didn’t know she can unleash some Twerking moves. Habida grooved with a lucky fan that danced raunchily with the singer and later got a hug from the Kenyan singer. Besides that I know many people have been wondering where she has been to. Habida has signed a music contract with Gallo records famous for signing Tusker project fame finalist too.

The beautiful mother of one has already released a single dubbed ‘I love you’ and she has done the remix with DJ sabby. The singer has been splitting her time between Nairobi and Johannesburg where she is now based. WE hope she releases nice music like the likes of you are my reason, Sunshine etc.Check the video here

Emmy Kosgei refutes claims of divorcing her husband

There have been rumors about Emmy Kosgei divorcing her rich husband who is a Pastor in Nigeria. But the pair has come forth refuting any claims of divorce. Why do people wish bad luck on two grown ups who have decided to tie the knot and live together bonded by love. Most people don’t think that this kind of marriages can survive but according to me Love prevails at last. We all know that Emmy Kosgei is younger than Apostle Madubuko but the pair posted this photo showing how much they are together.

Corazon releases some photos to prove the naysayers she still got it

Since Kenyans started adoring women with endowed behinds it has become a routine after every few months a new socialite is born. It’s no surprise that Corazon Kwamboka is the new dime in town blessed with a Big behind that is driving men crazy on social media and Google. Last year it was Huddah Monroe who dominated search terms carried out by Kenyans. Did we become too attached to drama that we search in and out about the so called Socialites. So recently I came across a Shady video that Corazon posted on YouTube that have caused uproar with her fans. I didn’t know Kenyans demand quality from this so called big booty socialites. They massacred her with bad reviews and comments about the Video not being up to per with Twerking standards.

I tell you if you gonna shake your money maker you better do it wearing the right outfit and show some ass while you on it. So most guys complaining me excluded did not see any behind nor was she looking sexy in that Oversized pampers looking beach wear. As I always say Kenya is still a free country in you think you can twerk better than her then show us what you got. Well Corazon has not sucked and run away from all the drama, she posted a few sexy photos to prove them haters wrong. I understand she is a lawyer by profession and we all know lawyers don’t kiss a** very often. What do you think of our so called socialites are they taking it too far? What happens when one gets old and the fame is gone or gets dethroned by another one?

David moyes exits Manchester United after getting sacked

David moyes exits Manchester United after getting sacked
The curtain fell today on David moyes as he was sacked with immediate effect. Moyes becomes the second Manchester coach since Ferguson left. Manchester united lost to Everton a team that David moyes coached earlier. This must have angered the top management so badly to get him sacked. Well this has to be the worst season that the club has experienced. Moyes transition from previous coach has been dogged by a lot of negative energy. Major players such as Van persie and Ferdinand have not been happy with his style of management. Manchester needed a good midfielder to compliment the striking force they have and that is one position that Moyes neglected. I I can’t blame him for everything that the team has gone through but some of it come to the players themselves. Especially if you watched the last game they played Everton, a team that they have thrashed in the past. Manchester players have been motivated before since they have always maintained the top three but things a different. Let’s see who will fill in the position left by Moyes. In the meantime Ryan GIggs will act as the coach.

Forget our very own Socialites in Kenya Agatha loswash killer Curves

Forget our very own Socialites in Kenya. Agatha Loswash is a curvaceous TV presenter for NBS television in Uganda. She has some killer hips and a beautiful smile. I always knew Uganda’s ladies beat Kenya when it comes to those killer curves. In the current generation that we live you Television stations and companies are investing on beauty to sell their products.

I wouldn’t miss the news if Agatha is the one presenting them. More plus size women are liberated and are expressing their beautiful bodies. The era of skinny models is no longer popular in east Africa. I can confidently say we are appreciating our beautiful ladies with well endowed bodies. Check out this photos she be killing them softly.

Octopizzo spits on the World Cup Anthem African Version

Octopizzo spits on the World Cup Anthem African Version
They don’t call him Kibera’s finest for nothing; Octopizzo is among few artists in Africa who got a chance to be featured in the World is ours beat by Aloe Blacck and David Corey. The world is ours is the official Coca Cola world cup anthem which will see different artist contribute in their native languages from all over the world for the 2014 world cup. The song is inspired to make people dance and sing in diverse styles.
Octopizzo has also recently been having a great time performing different cities in Europe such as Germany. Other artists who are feature on this song are Uganda’s Lilian Mbabazi, Tanzania’s lady, Fally Ipupa and Nigeria’s M.I and Waje. Check the video here

Prophet Owour followers clean the streets of eldoret with omo for him

You can call him Pastor, Apostle or Prophet.  The flamboyant prophet as the call him have left people stunned after residents of Eldoret took to the streets to clean the Roads in preparation for his arrival for a Major crusade in the town. Some of these things were only witnessed long time ago during the era of Jesus Christ. Pastor Owour is known to cause traffic snarls whenever he is around a town. Before attending the Eldoret prayer meeting he was earlier photographed shopping for a suits in a popular shop a long Kimathi street. During the shopping spree he appeared with his long motorcade of expensive automobile including a Range rover and a Mercedes together with a full detail of bodyguards like a Real VIP. Personally I think people are taking it too far when it comes to adoring our Men of the cloth.

For those who read the bible, we all know Jesus was a humble person despite being the son of God. At one time he even rode on a donkeys back, ate together with the poor. And preached about sharing what we have been blessed with. How many people can attest to their pastors, prophets, Apostles whichever name you want to call them preaching the same message that the messiah did?
When is prophet Owour going to hold another rally probably in Nairobi? The streets are not that clean plus its big city. Let’s see if his followers will run to the streets with Omo to clean them up.

Vera sidika appears on prezzo lates video

Vera Sidika has finally appeared on her second Kenyan local video. The popular bootylicious video vixen appears on latest track by Prezzo. Prezzo must have paid a hefty price to feature Vera Sidika on his track My Gal. She appears on a swimming pool dressed on a tiny Winnie black bikini displaying her famous derriere. All I know is that prezzo’s song is going to get more YouTube views due to her presence. This move is going to hit huddah Monroe with envy. Huddah dated prezzo earlier before she was dethroned by Vera Sidika on the race for socialites with big bums. Check out the photo posted on her Facebook page.

The Eastleigh crackdown got me thinking, is our country addicted to TERROR?

Why is it that most people who go abroad never desire to come back to their home country? Kenyans in particular go to states or Europe but not a single one is willing to come back. Some may invest on their relatives but are still reluctant to come back and settle down. Am I the only one who sometimes thinks we are too far from change? Just like Tupac sung “some things will never be the same, still I see no changes...” I know we can’t run away from problems but rather solving them is what will bring change. When we stop just talking and take actions no matter how small it may seem. The first thing that irks me a lot about our country is our leaders never take things seriously. Have you ever noticed how things that matter most read Lives being lost on a daily basis never ring a bell on their mind? Take for instance the ever happening disasters and terrorist attacks that have been happening on the recent past. If some of the acts that occur were to happen in other countries, some people would be fired. Solutions for the problems formulated and changes enacted where necessary.
The whole of this week our security force have been involved in an operation to establish citizenship of our fellow descents from Somali. A lot of questions have been raised as to what prompted for the immediate action to get rid of those alleged to be here illegally. I am not the big CIA but a lot of questions have to be asked as to when we take action on things that should have been done earlier. Also we need to ask ourselves some questions does it mean that the government didn’t know that we had illegal immigrants in Kenya until the Bomb Attack and the likoni church massacre happened.
If we want to solve some problems we have to start with the main roots of the problems. I applaud the government for some of its initiative to form a special force that will be responsible of our borders and fighting terrorism. But even as they do that we have to be realistic and solve the bigger problems. The major problem that I know will still be a big challenge to our government is the people responsible of securing our country, the police. Some say people say that we should pay them well; some say they should be a product of good grades. Fine this would be good qualities in our police force in Kenya. So what happens when some of these prerequisites are ignored?  We raise a force that knows only one language. Pay something small and we can negotiate on your freedom. But these are the people that we expect to bring justice and peace in our country. Then we will keep hoping and may never find it. To come back to my point I read somewhere that during the Eastleigh security raids a journalist was caught up in one of the raids. He narrated the whole scenario of what was happening and as usual the police would release you from their trucks if you parted with five thousand shillings. See what I was talking about. Now this is what happens on the ground but even before they do this some of the people that are in Kenya illegally how did they pass the immigrations test and get validated with Kenyan IDs. That should be our main big questions to answer. I believe if you are in the US without proper papers you ought to be afraid of the consequences of you being in that country illegally. Those that are here illegally ought to have some fear. But if nobody gives a F**k what goes around we are going to harbor a lot of people with ill motives, People who don’t care about peace and humanity in our communities.Yet again am reminded of a song i like by Black Eyed Peas, where is the love.
I know some people are against what the police are doing may be because of the manner in which they are carrying out the operations. But we can’t blame them that’s how they have been trained and for them to do it differently they have to be trained well then. The recent bomb attacks in Eastleigh must have prompted the government to carry out the operations. I don’t see any reason why we should sympathize with people who want to blow themselves and others for no apparent reason. I mean Kenyan is a peaceful country and we don’t need it to go to the wind just like that. This issue is not a about a certain religion or race being discriminated, no. Many people may argue that there’s some kind of discrimination but we should differentiate that with following the law. If someone is here without the proper documents and something happens he or she can leave without a trace. Therefore I believe the screening that’s taking place should actually be intensified. If I was in another country illegally I would cringe in fear if my fellow brotherhood is the ones carrying out attacks. If these operations are done with no bias then in one way or the other it’s within the law and should go on even in other cities and not just Eastleigh.
I like Eastleigh and the way things are at the moment I would rather shop in town where things are much expensive that set my foot there.  And to my fellow friends who live there and have experienced the wrath of the POPOs I feel for you especially the innocent Kenyans who are born and raised here and those with valid documents. That’s my two cent’s! Wait i think it’s more than a two cent. It’s a free country and somebody has to say it like it is. No hard feelings.

Twix Photography

1839, birth of photography. First successful photograph by Thomas Wedgewood. Though it was just an Image. He died at 34 I’m guessing he smoked too much or maybe the flu took him. But then Louis Daguerre was the first to include man in his photograph, the same year 1839 at some street in France, boulevard du temple.

Despite what you are seeing right now, it was a pretty busy street. The thing is, in order for an image to conjure at that time, during the inception of photography, the camera had to focus on an object for slightly over 10 minutes. That explains why only two men are seen on that photograph, the man and the shoe shiner. Now I wonder, did they have selfies at that time?
I could go on and on about photography, because it is kind of vast, I mean there was this time I believe the flash produced by a camera would land you in hospital, powerful like an object in motion, like in those old movies e.g. King Kong, lol those things flickered with so much power if today they were to be used again at likoni people would run for their lives like no one’s business.

This is a tribute to Peter Ndungu Kamau alias j’z, I don’t know if he still goes by that nick anymore, of Strathmore School of Law, he is my friend, my former classmate some time back, also now practices both law - cum - photography, I won’t concentrate on the law bit, but instead photography.
What best way to store memories other than through photography, i mean i personally hate my childhood years, thinking of them makes me want to puke, no better time than the present (viva the present and all his friends). if u luckily had a camera and your baby sis or your nagging girlfriend or those family photos usually taken annually or in a span of a few years and you definitely had to be in them, (maybe because your father is a dictator), you remember that 'i will kill you where you stand or i will kill you in your sleep' vibe going through your mind while you posed for the camera, at that time, you did not even dare to check out how the photo looked like. Now 10 years down the lane and you accidentally stumble over those family albums and perusing you find that picture from that day and you can’t help but smile. I think i made my point.
Back to peter. You should definitely check out his photos. I’ll post the address below to view pictures by him. I have his collection myself there is one I’m even thinking of framing. Too awesome.

His pictures are deep check this out for example

'The little challenges in life can be a hurdle and you might not see what’s in front. But with the right attitude, vision and focus, you can bravely walk past them.' -Pierre
Peter ndungu is a son of photography, you don’t believe me, check this out.

Check out the lighting for instance, i have an amateur eye but i could not help but notice the emotions in that photo. This is what I see:
1. A humongous pole with a shitty flag.
2. Kenyans together.
3. The light (on your left) - that light signifies so much I’m afraid if I get into detail, the government will declare me an enemy of the state. This picture can start a revolution, that’s how deep I think that picture is. Take your time to analyze it. Okay you are taking too much time, I’ll go ahead and give you what I think. the light is so bright it turns you on, it depicts the proverbial saying light at the end of the tunnel, aluta continua, struggle continues, it shows how we can grow into a superpower nation with sharp young minds who try to tap into their abilities without caring whatever kind of a barrier between you and the sea of unlimited opportunities that lay ahead. (That is the censored version. for uncensored, explicit limited version call me.)
An undergraduate student has to go to class and code stupid programs to keep up with the rest of the pigs at school. It was not my intention to blog after 3 or so weeks, plus i had cats, yes, i just heard you say fuck, i know i did.
Please check out peter's Twix official page either on twitter or Facebook, they will definitely nice.be cool, be safe.

Configure WhatsApp without BIS for blackberry in Kenya

Most blackberry users in Kenya and other parts of the world are locked from using services such as Facebook and Whatsapp unless they subscribe to the prepaid blackberry offers by most internet service providers. These offers by major mobile subscribers sometime can be costly to run on a daily. If you have experienced this kind of problem you don't have to worry, I will explain how you can use your Blackberry phone to access whatsapp using your bundles.

I came up with this post after assisting one of my pals configure his blackberry phone to use WhatsApp without having the Blackberry internet service enabled. It seemed like a daunting task but I got the way around pretty easy, after all it’s not illegal. Most android users enjoy these services without going through so much hustle to use WhatsApp and Facebook unlike their blackberry counterparts.

The first thing you need to do on your blackberry phone is; go to options then Device then advanced system settings and select TCP IP. You will find the APN option where you can change and modify the APN depending with the network you want to use. Edit the APN and then make sure the password and APN are settings are enabled.

For safaricom users APN: safaricom, username: saf password: data
For Airtel use APN: ke.celtel.com
For orange Kenya APN: bew.orange.co.ke
After making these changes to your profile you make sure the following settings are set as below.

Firewall settings should be put off. Go to options >> security >> Firewall and make sure everything is disabled. This firewall can be used to block Text messages and emails. But if you don’t need to block any of these just disable it by default.

If encryption and compression are on, put them off also.

Then head to Browser push and make sure that all of them are enabled. This setting is found on Options>> Device >> Advanced options then Browser Push.

The next step is loading the application via the native blackberry browser, make sure you download the application from Whatsapp main website and choose blackberry version. You will be prompted to allow the application to by giving it the necessary security rights. Then click download after the download starts. Launch the application then after it loads disconnect the phone by removing the battery without switching off. Reboot the phone and enjoy using Whatsapp. Some issues that may arise include the application failing to connect to the cellular data which means data is may be is not allowed on the application. You can get an error saying "Verification requires a WI-Fi or cellular data connection, that could not be found"
Another alternative is to use Wi-Fi connection to download the application then after that enable 3G network for phone number verification message from Whatsapp. Note also that you have to use the native blackberry browser to download WhatsApp.
Remember this steps that I outlined above can be used to download other applications such a opera mini if you are tired of using the Native blackberry browser that comes with your phone by default. You can always go back to using WhatsApp on BIS plan by de-activating the APN profile. I will be carrying out another post on how to configure your mobile phone to use blackberry services in Kenya soon.

Buy out competion or join and play the Game

Sometime the saying if you can’t beat them join them applies a lot in business. Trying to compete in a business sometime can be very hard especially when you want your products to remain relevant in the market. That’s why I see most big companies some time prefer to buy out their smaller competitors who are growing big and more innovative than them. That’s not the only reason; it could also be prospects of making a huge profit after injecting more cash to boast the business and increase revenues.

Competition is the rule of the game and most big companies such as Facebook, Samsung, Apple and Twitter survive by outshining each other. Samsung mobile would not have gone so far if they didn’t try to copy Apple iPhone model. They started with the shape of their Galaxy phone which became popular and a lot of people compared it to iPhone. That was not enough they also introduced the front camera on their devices. And recently they are trying to introduce the Finger swipe technology on their latest Samsung Galaxy S5 phone model.

When it comes to making huge acquisition, Facebook is keen on buying out companies that it deems profitable or those that come close to giving it a run for their money. Facebook purchased Instagram a photo sharing website that was gaining a massive following as the next social media platform. Facebook which uses the same model of business made a good decision to buy out their competitor Instagram. Now anytime you brag about ditching Facebook for Instagram, but still continue sharing your photos on Facebook via Instagram think twice. Facebook recently purchased WhatsApp in a whopping $19 Billion deal that saw WhatsApp founders rise to Forbes top 50 richest people in the world. Technically the money has not left Facebook as many people ought to think but only shares have been traded here.

The only company that still gives Facebook a headache is Twitter; most of my friends ditch Facebook for Twitter everyday.Even myself sometime I prefer logging in to Twitter to get real time updates on what’s happening and trending locally or international. That doesn’t mean I don’t like Facebook but sometime I prefer Twitter over Facebook. And by the way things are moving they have already added their own #tag system on the platform just like Twitter.
Twitter is unique, simple and precise. If you open the two websites and compare that’s when you notice one is a jack of all trades. Facebook is loaded with Applications, Groups, Fan pages, Adverts, chat and many other features. For someone who is just interested with interacting with fellow like minded friends, all this features are not necessary. When you compare it with Twitter you will notice Twitter is clean and has less columns and features that could distract or bore you to death.

If you thought that was not enough they have introduced trending topics on the upper right corner of each account. This is one of Twitter’s oldest features which Facebook users will start using. Now if you don’t agree with me that sometime if you can’t beat them you just join them you. If somebody keeps copying your style or model of business that means there is something that you are doing right.

Life lesson from this major tech companies is you can either buy out your competition or you can either copy the same things your competitor is doing and may be add some little magic to it. What Facebook does might look like a cheap game but trust me they are making more money than twitter with every move they implement. Sometime it’s easier using proven methods having success than coming up with totally new ideas and concepts. Don’t get me wrong on this you still can use the concept of new fresh ideas to be successful in areas where your competitor is lurking behind.

I wrote this random post after logging in to Facebook and twitter the same time. I couldn’t help but notice the two biggest social media websites compete on a daily basis. Whatever floats your boat folks, after all one man's meat is another man's poison.

Campus Wi-Fi by orange Kenya at Kenyatta University

Orange Kenya has introduced a Wi-Fi hotspots service to server Kenyatta university students with cheap and fast internet via Wi-Fi.

The Wi-Fi hotspots will only be available on the campus radius and its environs. Customers will need to have Wi-Fi enabled devices such as Laptops, Tablets or mobile phones to access the service. Once the customer searches for the Wi-Fi hotspot they will be required to create an account with their emails. Afterwards you will be given free 10 minutes access to the Wi-Fi internet connection.

Upon creating an account the Kenyatta university students needs to log in to the top up page to top up and buy the bundles on the same web interface. Orange Kenya is one of the leading internet service providers with cheap bundles and fastest internet in Kenya. Their Bundles ranges from 20MB to 5GB.The service also include a time based plan where you can choose to pay and pay a fixed amount for thirty minutes or 1 hr.

The advantage of using this service is you don’t have to own a modem to browse or use normal 3G network which sometimes is congested. Also customers using the campus Wi-Fi hotspot service will receive bonus data valid for 24hrs for every bundle purchased. You don’t need to have an orange sim card to use the service and its totally independent of the sim card you use, therefore you can still continue making calls using a different network while you enjoy using the Wi-Fi internet connection.

Orange Kenya has always been the pioneer for unique data services and was the first company to introduce zero.facebook. This service is available to orange customers who intend to use Facebook without incurring data costs.

Mobile banking apps popular in Kenya

Mobile banking apps are the next frontier in the field of banking that will make business runs smoothly and conveniently. Gone are the days when you had to queue at the banking halls to do simple transactions like Money transfer from one account to the other. Now you can even purchase airtime directly from your bank account without leaving your couch. As more Kenyans move towards using smartphones that run Android, IOS or java, banks are capitalizing on this trend by developing Mobile banking applications to ease the activities such as printing bank statements, checking balance etc. Unless you are still leaving in the analogue age, you don’t have to go to a bank to queue to check your balance. I remember some years back you had either to use your ATM or walk directly to the counter provide your account number or ID to get your balance. These are some of the popular mobile banking applications that our banks use in Kenya;

Eazzy 247 – Equity bank is one of the biggest banks in Kenya in terms of customer volume.Eazzy247 app is their version of mobile banking app that you can download to your smartphone to do simple transactions such as checking your balance, requesting a statement, pay your utility bills , transfer funds etc. As a customer with the bank I have experienced the use of this application especially when transferring money between accounts. I can say confidently this application is very effective. The only thing that you need to know before using the app is your Customer ID which is issued at the bank. After reading most reviews on Google play store most people complained of the app activation that has to be done specifically by visiting the Bank. I think that’s the only drawback. But if you need the app so badly you can just visit their branch, they are everywhere.

Mfukoni by Chase Bank – The first thing that struck me with the application is the self register menu. Just like the other apps it can be used to check balance, deposit cheques online, make money transfers internationally, airtime top up, access you’re MPESA and other services securely. The good thing is after installing the app, verification of the account is done via your mobile number. The service works can also be accessed by dialing *275# on a Non-internet enabled phone. According to the reviews on Google play most of the customers are satisfied with this app.

KCB Mobi-bank – Kenya commercial bank is one of the biggest banks in Kenya. The bank has developed the application for all platforms Mobile phone platform starting with Java, Android and IOS. Customers need to visit the following link to download the respective app for their phone. The application has features such as transferring money from MPESA to bank account, sending money to any mobile number from your KCB account, direct money transfer between KCB accounts, Paying utility bills and many others. Note transfer from account to MPESA is 55ksh.

NIC now mobile app – NIC now is a new application by NIC bank Kenya that borrows from its name by bringing you the services NOW instead of making trips to the bank. The bank had in mind a strategy to bring most of its services to its client such as opening online accounts, online cheques deposits, balance enquiry and funds transfer in real-time. It’s available to its current account holders with the bank via their smartphones. Just like the eazzy247, NIC now uses the Customer ID and password to log in to the app interface.

Barclays bank mobile app – This app is designed to carry out simple tasks to manage your Barclays Bank account. You can view your statements, manage multiple accounts, Monitor you credit card transactions, and finally check the nearest branch network in Kenya. I think Barclays bank avoided more features that access your bank account such as buying airtime and paying utility bills for security reasons. As part of security measure this app will not work on a rooted phone. Forget the app if you have rooted your phone. Also many users reported the app being very stable with no bugs.

Other major banks such as Co-operative bank, National bank, CFC bank and Family bank have mobile banking services that can be accessed via USSD and have not yet come up with apps to do the job. The only problem with USSD is the mobile companies charge unnecessary cost to run those commands.

To crown it all most of these services would not be a success without the invention of M-PESA and as you can see most of them have the service built into the application. With proper security more apps will be developed and evolve to become the next modern way of banking.
